Monique Neefjes (Hoorn, 1977) finished her study in Cultural Anthropology and Non-Western Sociology in 2002. Next to music she works as a fundraiser for het Tropenmuseum.
After a number of years following violin lessons, she changed her focus to classical music in 2001 when she followed lessons with Mrs. Verkoren-Skripnik in Hoorn. In 2005, she changed to vocal coach Kirsten Schötteldreier in Amsterdam, from whom she still has lessons. Furthermore, she has lessons with Peter T. Harrison (singing teacher and author of The Human Nature or the Singing Voice, exploring a holistic basis for sound teaching and learning, 2006).
In December 2005 she performed the role of Gretel in the opera Hänsel und Gretel by E. Humperdinck. Monique has sung in several concerts and events, among others for the ABN AMRO Bank N. V. and KLM. In May 2007 the opera Dido and Aeneas by H. Purcell was performed twice in the Amstelveen theater, in which Monique played the role of 1st Witch, 1st Nereid and 1st Shepherdess. In June of that year she performed the role of Belinda and 1st Witch in the same opera in a production by the Wogmeers Vocaal Ensemble. In March 2009 she appeared in the NCRV television program Una Voce Particolare and in May 2010 she played the role of Euridice in the opera Orfeo ed Euridice by G.W. Gluck.
Next to her work as a singer Monique also works as an independent and executive producer of musical programs and projects either commissioned or on her own initiative. For more information go to Production
